
Growing up in a small town of Uttar Pradesh, Nagina, India, always intrigued me towards the intense colours and the vibrant culture of our land. I always wanted to bring all the hues and shades of life on my canvas. My parents encouraged me since childhood to pursue my dreams, and after marriage, I found the same encouragement from my husband Mahendra, who became my biggest supporter, best critic, and constant source of inspiration.
I started painting full time in 1965, after I completed my Masters in Drawing & Painting, from Agra College. My work of the last 50 years has given me so much content, creative satisfaction and numerous joys in all the paintings that I have made so far and even for the ones I have been working on these days.
The ingredients that make a successful painting are the very same that go into watching a young child play with colours, as both bring out the inner love and much happiness all around. My brushes opened up a whole new world to me. I was able to bring to canvas the things that matter to me. I am not too inclined in painting too much modern or shocking; it is purely about what moves me as an artist and as a human being...
